Business Case
NYSERDA originally implemented PeopleSoft in April 2009 with version 9.0 and tools 8.52. Oracle support of version 9.0 was set to expire on June 30, 2015. So NYSERDA needed to upgrade to a version higher than 9.0. NYSERDA additionally wanted to implement new Supplier Functionality. PeopleSoft 9.2 provides new E-Supplier Module to achieve this. The decision that NYSERDA’s Financials and SCM system needed to be upgraded from PeopleSoft from 9.0 to 9.2 was made.
NYSERDA needed to upgrade its Oracle PeopleSoft Financials and Supply Chain Management (FSCM) software. Modules include General Ledger, Commitment Control, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Billing, Customer Contracts, Asset Management, Project Costing, Purchasing, Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Contract Management.
Additionally this allowed NYSERDA to move to Oracle’s new image-based approach, using the PUM and other enhanced functions contained in PeopleSoft 9.2 and the latest Peopletools version.
The Solution
CMA has the resources, both technical and functional, to maintain and migrate all existing data, functionality, processes and reports to the new versions. CMA had the experience to improve NYSERDA’s current business processes to keep them aligned with leading practices. CMA also helped design the rules to minimize the need for keeping and migrating prior customizations and reducing the need for new modifications, or customizations during the upgrade effort.
CMA had prior experience assisting clients in upgrades of PeopleSoft FSCM to 9.0 or higher for all the FIN and SCM modules. CMA also had prior experience implementing the e-Supplier Connection module which NYSERDA implemented as a part of the upgrade project helping to add incremental value to the upgrade project.
CMA utilized PeopleSoft v9.2 to upgrade as per the NYSERDA requirements. The modules upgraded by CMA are Purchasing, Accounts Payable and Asset Management.
The solution consists of doing Fit-Gap Analysis which includes comparison, Analysis and documentation of the entire current environment to the desired environment to support FSCM 9.2. CMA proposed few additional customizations, reports and interfaces which are based on the Fit-Gap Analysis done as part of the scope of services.
CMA used PeopleSoft Software like PeopleTools which consists of Application Designer, People Code, Application Engine, and BI Publisher to develop a minimal number of new customizations, along with new reports and interfaces.
The Results
NYSERDA was able to use the new functionality provided by PeopleSoft v9.2 for Leased Assets in AM module, Email Advice Functionality in AP module, Work Flow functionality in AP and PO modules to name a few. CMA successfully simplified the process of approvals in AP and PO modules where end users can now change the workflow rules by themselves online eliminating the involvement of the Technical team.
