Business Case
In April 2020, the CARES Act allocated $30 billion to healthcare providers throughout the country. CMS will distribute money to providers within each state based on the percentage of Medicaid payments each provider received during the past two years. To determine this percentage, CMS asked New York State to provide a list of providers with the corresponding amount of funds received from Medicaid from 2018 – 2019.
The NYS Department of Health needed CMA to compile this critical information quickly. This task was challenging as the payment criteria involved grouping a wide variety of Medicaid payments, including managed care and lump-sum payments.
The Results
Despite the complications of the ask, CMA and the NYS Department of Health worked around the clock to meet the aggressive federal deadline. CMA performed this special project over and above the normal workload involved with administering the NYS MDW.
This initiative was an important step in providing billions of dollars in relief from the federal government to healthcare providers throughout New York State, who have also gone above and beyond performing critical work to save lives during this health crisis. Going forward, as New York State continues the battle with COVID-19, CMA will be there to assist as a true partner with the state.
